My New Article: American Islamic Scholars and the UAE

August 30, 2019 By Ahmed Shaikh

Games with the Muslim CommunityI have a new article on Muslim Matters about a subject that has bothered me for a few years:  Islamic Scholars that tie themselves to the agenda of a foreign government: In particular, the United Arab Emirates.  I explain why this is an especially unique problem.  I focus on one particular person who has been in the spotlight recently, Dr. Sherman Jackson of the University of Southern California.  This article may upset some people (it has already) for different reasons.

If a government harms Muslims in large numbers but also seeks religious legitimacy from American Islamic Scholars, is that OK?

Please read the article and let me know what you think.
