MCA Santa Clara on the 19th, Also New Estate Planning Articles

January 15, 2020 By Ahmed Shaikh

Assalamu Alaikum,

I will be visiting MCA in Santa Clara on January 19, 2020, at 1:30 PM Insha Allah.  It will be on Islamic Inheritance, Islamic Living Trusts, my book, and making sure Muslims are fulfilling their obligations to their families.  I have been speaking at MCA on this subject for about a dozen years now and it’s perhaps my favorite Masjid to visit in California.  If you or your friends and loved ones are in the area on the 19th, please come and visit.

Also, I have a new website focused on general estate planning.  The website where most of my Islamic Estate Planning article is, Islamicinheritance.com is, of course, meant for Muslims.  I hope you will refer your friends and family to articles there (there are many) on Islamic Estate Planning.  But I also have a website for general Estate Planning, optimizedestateplanning.com.  There will be similar educational articles there for families.  I have new articles for a general audience (not religiously focused) on Estate Planning, Living Trusts, Charitable Planning, and Asset Protection Planning.

Please take a look at them if you like and share with anyone you think may benefit.

What we can learn about Muslim Charities from the arrest of an American Muslim Politician

December 30, 2019 By Ahmed Shaikh

I wrote about charities in Muslim Matters recently. Many of them are poorly run and structured to make corruption easy. This description includes charities we support and whose leaders we love and respect. Historically there is one crucial sign things can go seriously wrong, and you don’t need to read a single financial statement. We saw this with the arrest of an American Muslim politician who was arrested by Pennsylvania authorities because of how she ran her charity, called “MECA.”

I go into how regulation of charities works in the United States, which has a long history of nonprofit corruption, especially with religious organizations. The spectacular failure of the Crystal Cathedral in Orange County (and other examples) can happen again and again in the Muslim community the way things are going. The only real thing stopping this from happening is if you start to give in charity with excellence. Part of this is being an educated donor. Please do check out my article and let me know what you think.

Interview on Sada-E-Haq TV

December 20, 2019 By Ahmed Shaikh

I was interviewed this past Sunday about Islamic Inheritance on Afghan-American TV station Sada-e-Haq on Islamic Inheritance.  A. Wali Hanifzai is a great host.  It was in English.  I am not used to doing things like this, but here it is:

December 12, 2019 By Ahmed Shaikh

I will be doing a presentation at the Islamic Center of Hawthorne on Islamic Inheritance and Islamic Estate Planning on December 13, 2019.  I will also cover some charitable planning.  If you or any friends or family are in the area, please send them over for the evening program.  I expect the program will be after Isha prayer but please contact the Masjid to be sure.

I am also going to be on the TV program Sada-e Haqon Sunday the 15that 11 AM.   It will be broadcast live and available on youtube and facebook.  This will also be about Islamic Inheritance.

When your Muslim Leader or Scholar is a Foreign Agent

November 15, 2019 By Ahmed Shaikh

Muslim Foreign Agents I recently wrote at MuslimMatters about the issue of Muslim leaders and scholars in the United States acting as unregistered foreign agents.  This is actually quite common and the fact that people are foreign agents is not in itself bad.  However, it could be very bad.

More important, there is a law, the Foreign Agents Registration Act, that requires detailed reporting that Muslim leaders and scholars never seem to do.  This is a crime could subject many of our favorite leaders and scholars to fines and time in prison.  You can read the article here.
